TROY — In April, the Troy Foundation established the Community Needs Fund with a $50,000 grant.
The fund was used to match donations made by individuals, businesses and organizations to nonprofit organizations providing basic needs to the residents of Troy.
These organizations included: Partners In Hope, First Place Food Pantry, Family Abuse Shelter, St. Pat’s Soup Kitchen, St. Joseph’s House, FISH of Troy, Inc., Health Partners of Miami County, Inc. and the Miami County Dental Clinic.
By mid-August, the entire $50,000 had been matched, generating $100,000 to these organizations to assist our neighbors in need.
In late September, the Foundation recognized that the needs continued to grow in the community, and that nonprofit organizations were working tirelessly to meet the needs of Troy’s residents and provided a one-time addition to the fund of $25,000 which was matched by the first of December.
During their December meeting, the Foundation’s Distribution Committee, established the Community Needs Plus Fund with a grant of $50,000.
The “plus” allows donors to make contributions through the fund to any Troy nonprofit organization providing services to Troy residents. Contributions can be made to assist in such areas as arts and culture, recreation, wildlife, health, and historical preservation, to name just a few, while continuing to assist organizations providing basic needs.
Like the Community Needs Fund, the Community Needs Plus Fund will match contributions of up to $1,000 through March 1, 2010 to organizations providing services to Troy residents.
Individuals wishing to help address the needs of the nonprofit community during these difficult economic times may make contributions to the Community Needs Plus Fund and designate the organization they wish for the funds to benefit.
The initial gift to the Community Needs Plus Fund of The Troy Foundation is tax deductible and donors will be acknowledged by The Troy Foundation for tax purposes. Contributions will be forwarded to the designated organization in the name of the donor.
To make a contribution to the Community Needs Fund of The Troy Foundation, stop by the foundation offices or mail a check to: Community Needs Fund, The Troy Foundation, 216 W. Franklin St., Troy, OH 45373. Be sure that the organization that you wish to designate is clearly stated.
